You Cast Your Spell On Me. Spell & The Gypsy Collective

Jul 4, 2011

Boho. Hippie. Free Spirit. Gypsy. Earthy. Words that describe a certain aesthetic, but also an approach to living life. A way to describe someone's attire, but also a certain set of values. These days it seems the boho look is easy to achieve; fast fashion chains carry all the feathered and faux gemstone jewellery your heart could desire. The only thing missing is, well, everything! There's no history behind these mass produced pieces, no story. They may be pretty but they lack that personalized feeling that comes with owning something hand crafted.

Camera shy sisters Elizabeth and Isabella known as Lizzy & Spelly on their blog, are the artists behind Spell & the Gypsy Collective, a funky boho jewellery/fashion/accessories line full of handmade treasures.

Based out of Byron's Bay New Zealand and drawing inspiration from Native American culture, Izzy and Spelly's laid back and relaxed approach to living life is reflected through their eclectic designs. Clearly they have a passion for what they do as their blog is not only a diary of their day to day life, but a source of inspiration and appreciation for the simpler things in life. Izzy and Spelly are boho not just in looks, but in spirit, as they support other artists and feature many local artisan on their blog.

Using feathers, turquoise, leathers, oxidized metals and many other natural materials to create works of art, every piece is something that will last for decades. Spell & The Gypsy Collection captures that wandering nomad feeling and translates it into wearable pieces. Well maybe not appropriate for the office, but you know what I mean ;)

  2. I know what you mean about the mass produced boho stuff that is just about everywhere. It has kind of lost what it is about. This collection looks beautiful.

  5. How beautiful...I love the fact that everything is handmade. Feels like it has more meaning and background. I've bought feather earrings from commercial fashion stores but it's just not the same. Thank you for sharing :)

  7. about boho wear being every where really irritates me... i know it sounds really silly but i don't want it to be mainstream, then there's nothing different about it.

    1. I know what you mean, once things become mainstream their appeal diminishes. My friend moved to Australia a few years ago and it seems to be the style there but here in Ottawa (and the rest of Canada) no one dresses like that. It's hard to find clothes I like! Stores here carry mostly "sexy" stuff, preppy or plain basics, other than that there isn't much.
