Chic Heroin: A Fashion Icon In The Making

Feb 17, 2011

In a day and age where most twenty-somethings dress like a walking Forever 21 billboard, it’s a pleasant surprise when I come across a blogger who possesses the ability to wear something other than what’s featured in the latest H&M campaign.

I first discovered Elizabeth Victoria of Chic Heroin when she was featured in the September 2010 issue of LouLou magazine. Despite the fact she was on a trendy magazine cover it was apparent that she had her own original and stylish way of dressing. Without looking costumey or ridiculous Elizabeth is a modern day hippie who manages to look eclectic yet tasteful while conveying a free spirit vibe.

She possesses a knack, much like the Olsen twins, of being able to balance seemingly opposites, like lace and plaid flannel, to create a unique look. Using the technique of whimsical pairings often make for interesting and memorable outfits.

Her style is a blend of Aritzia, H&M, designer and vintage pieces, but the key draw to her blog is her ability to remix pieces and make them look completely different each time. An integral piece to her organic way of dressing is layering the right pieces and textures, knowing when enough is enough, good quality basics, and a bit of ingenuity.

Chic Heroin doesn’t just contain an abundance of original styling ideas; it has information on fashion related events in Toronto, off the beaten path places to shop and the goings on in Miss Elizabeth’s life. This blog is a perfect example of how you can wear something trendy and make it your own. I can’t help but think, as I read the posts in my Google Reader, that she is a fashion icon in the making.
